A special tip from Carole

Dry Food for Dogs

Natural dry kibble, dehydrated, air-dried and raw pet food available from a variety of manufacturers. Paleo-inspired, organic, grain-free, weight management, and many other special formulas for your dog - the ingredients are pre-screened so you don't have to!

  • Nutrition is the foundation of good health for our animal companions
  • Dogs are almost biologically identical to their wolf ancestors, so they thrive on a diet of raw, uncooked ingredients
  • "The ideal dog diet is based on the prey model: good quality animal protein and fat, and very little carbohydrate" ~ Dr. Jean Hofve

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to protect your pets and (literally) keep an eye on them while they are on their own?

Carole's Doggie World - dog door flap

This is a beauty. It's the latest product on the world scene from a visionary UK company. As good as it is in enabling you to keep your pets out of danger and mischief, its inventors didn't actually build it with them in mind, so it gives you huge bonuses in most other aspects of your life.

Called SmarterAlex, it is an easily operated, hi-tech, magical sensor of environmental factors (light, humidity, temperature and power) with the added security attraction of being able to detect movement within its vicinity as well as hooking into a GPS. All that and more!

These smart monitors give you peace of mind in a simple form - alerting you in real time and instantly reporting problems or transgressions straight to your smartphone, tablet and computer so you can take appropriate action without any costly delay.

SmarterAlex is a range of stand-alone units containing different sensors for temperature, humidity, light, power failure, movement of the unit, movement in the vicinity, an intruder camera and GPS. Different models are equipped with different sensors to address specific requirements or all sensors can be combined into an "All in one" single unit.

SmarterAlex

And that's not all . . . SmarterAlex contains its own mobile phone modem so works entirely independently of WiFi or local Internet connectivity and has an internal rechargeable battery so will continue to operate in case of power failure.

I am so excited I have already ordered the "All in one" monitor This version can keep an eye on Molly and Rosie when I am out and about, and when I'm home it will double up as a Security device, keeping an eye on any movement around my back door.

Take a look at it and visualise how it can help protect your pets and a heap of other things. Buying one of these gives new meaning to dogs being man's best friend!

When pointed directly at the pet flap in your door, the SmarterAlex can monitor your pet's entrances and exits throughout the night or when you are at work. It can also alert you to any uninvited guests such as a neighbour's cat, feral cats or dogs (they do exist and are pretty smart too, so you often blame your own pet for their foraging).

All of which might be causing your pet extreme agitation as he or she tries to defend its home and food - leaving it constantly stressed, and generally an unhappy chappy.

SmarterAlex units are completely portable and can double up as security monitors, checking any movement to your front or back doors when your dog is out with you, and send you an alert and a snapshot immediately.

Carole's Doggie World tip - dog overheating in car

SmarterAlex "environment monitor" is ideal for use in the car when you need to leave Fido for a few minutes, e.g. nipping in to pick up a few groceries or fetching the kids from school.

Unbelievable as it sounds, on a hot summer day the inside temperature of a car parked in the sun can exceed more than 20 degrees Centigrade above the outside temperature.

This extreme rise in temperature is a serious threat for pets left inside cars, and can be fatal.

Lowering the windows by an average 2.5 cms will only reduce the inside temperature by about 3.16 Centigrade, which is not sufficient to significantly reduce the temperature safety concerns for your pet.

On a cold winter day, a parked car behaves almost like a refrigerator. It traps cold air in, which can lead to your pet freezing to death.

dogs can freeze to death if left in cars in cold weather

The "all in one" will also dual as security monitor if a thief is set upon stealing your pets and your car and will alert you immediately that your car has been stolen and track its whereabouts by the GPS function.

And while we're thinking about security - check over your home and contents insurance - it pays to read the small print of your policy.

child using cat door

The rule of thumb is "if a burglar is able to gain unforced access to your home (e.g. as in the case of cat flaps, which are large enough to allow a small child to crawl through or allow a thief to dismantle), your insurer may not pay out on your full claim.

Pointing a SmarterAlex at your pet flap may go towards negating this objection.

SmarterAlex fund raising

If you are as excited as I am about the possibilities of this superb new product, for peace of mind with your pet or your home, follow this link to read how you can get in early and place your order for one of our "early bird deals" to help fund their Indiegogo campaign, due for delivery in March 2015.
